WRAP – Waste and Resources Action Program

WRAP helps individuals, businesses and local authorities to reduce waste and recycle more, making better use of resources and helping to tackle climate change.

It has three primary objectives:

  • To send less waste to landfill
  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Increasing positive economic impacts

It was established in 2000 and is backed by government funding from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It works in seven key areas (Construction, Retail, Manufacturing, Organics, Business Growth, Behavioural Change, and Local Authority Support), WRAP’s work focuses on market development and support to drive forward recycling and materials resource efficiency within these sectors, as well as wider communications and awareness activities including the multi-media national Recycle Now campaign for England.

LARAC – Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee

LARAC is national local authority organisation that promotes waste reduction and recycling. They have 430 members from authorities in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales including associates from the Isle of Man, Eire and the Channel Islands. LARAC aim to facilitate the exchange of information on waste reduction and recycling throughout local government and with other organisations; provide expert responses to national, European and private sector initiatives and assist others with technical information and advice to promote best practice in waste management.

Paper Profile is a uniform declaration for presenting environmental product information. It covers relevant environmental aspects related to pulp and paper production including product composition and emissions, wood procurement and environmental management. Paper Profile enables the professional paper buyer to make well informed product choices.

CPI – Confederation of Paper Industries

The CPI is the leading organisation working on behalf of the UK paper-related industry. It represents the paper chain from the recovery of used paper through papermaking and conversion to distribution.

CPET - Central Point of Expertise on Timber Procurement's

The Central Point of Expertise on Timber Procurement's (CPET) website provides detailed information and advice on how public sector buyers and their suppliers can meet the UK Government’s timber procurement policy requirements in practice. In addition, background information is available on how these practical solutions were developed, including the types of evidence that demonstrate legality and sustainability and the criteria for evaluating such evidence. Information on this website is provided for general use and its use is not restricted, though it carries no warranty.

Carbon Trust

The Carbon Trust was set up by Government in 2001 as an independent company. It’s mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with organisations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies.

Mailing Preference Service

The MPS allows consumers to register, free of charge, their wish to be removed from up to 95% of direct mail lists in the UK. It helps to ensure that the direct mail consumers receive is welcome mail, while also helping the direct marketing industry to reduce its wastage. This does not include companies with whom a consumer has dealt with in the past, overseas mail or unaddressed mail.

It is a requirement of DMA membership and of the British Codes of Advertising & Sales Promotion that direct mailers must use this consumer file to clean their lists. It is administered by the DMA.

Telephone & Corporate Telephone Preference Services

The TPS allows consumers to register, free of charge, their wish to not receive unsolicited telephone sales and marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations do not call numbers registered on the TPS file unless given specific consent by users to do so.

The CTPS register allows business telephone numbers to be similarly suppressed from sales and marketing campaigns. As for the TPS file it is also a legal requirement to not contact people whose numbers are listed on the CTPS file.
